Holistic Christian Life - Worshiping God - Mind, Body, Soul

Mar 29, 2022

Today Cynthia brings a fairly specialized topic to you, but is it?  How many people do we know who have had breast cancer?  The information shared today could save a life or change lives for the better.  Meet Robyn Towt, a breast cancer survivor and now activist who is making waves with legislation on a state to state level…and soon…God willing…nationally.

I am a breast cancer survivor, diagnosed in 2017. I had a bilateral mastectomy and reconstruction breast implants with no other treatment or therapy.  I suffered debilitating health issues from the breast implants that were used for reconstruction. After just four months I had them removed and chose to stay flat. After breast implant removal, my symptoms resolved and the experience led me to become an advocate for raising awareness about breast implant safety.  My entire team of doctors failed to inform me that this could happen and I wondered how many other patients this was happening to.  I wanted to be sure that this information is provided to all patients who are considering having breast implant surgery, whether it is for augmentation, reconstruction or prevention.  I am passionate about patient safety and informed consent and I believe that every patient should have the proper information that is needed to make an educated and informed decision.  I recently worked with Arizona legislators to pass an informed consent law for breast implant surgery and I am now working on similar legislation in other states.

I am extremely happy with my choice to stay flat.  It is an empowering choice that I have fully embraced.  I feel womanly, beautiful and whole and I want other women to understand what a beautiful choice flat can be.  My hope is that surgeons will provide a more well rounded approach to offering surgical options for patients and for women to understand how rewarding, beautiful and freeing the flat choice can be.
